Iggy Azalea: ‘I’m officially unsigned’

AUSSIE raapper Iggy Azalea has revealed she has split from Island Records.

Azalea, who shifted from Def Jam Recordings to Island Records earlier this year after an internal spat, made the announcement yesterday.

The 28-year-old said she was “elated” to be “free”.

The Fancy singer added that she will not be releasing any new music this year.

It comes after nearly all of the dates on Azalea’s “Bad Girls” North American tour were cancelled last month.

The 21-city, five-week tour, her first headlining trek in the territory in four years, was scheduled to kick off on October 27 in Hollywood, Florida and wrap up on December 4 in Houston, Texas.

Opening act CupcakKe announced that she would no longer be on Azalea’s tour due to a “change of plans,” further implying that the tour was in trouble by claiming in a social media post: “Listeny’all , I went from getting paid 330k on this tour to 30k that’s what I mean by “change plans”. THIS WAS NOT IGGY THAT CHANGED PLANS !!!!! It was the ones that put it together !!!!! Iggy knows I love her …. I just need that bag IN FULL that’s all.”

The tour was in support of Azalea’s Survive the Summer EP, released in August, her first outing in four years, which featured guest spots from Wiz Khalifa and Tyga.

Last year, Azalea claimed that former Def Jam chief Steve Bartels refused to release any more singles from her planned album, Digital Distortion, after a string of unsuccessful records over two years, Billboard reported.

“Steve Bartels says he doesn’t want to release another single for my album unfortunately — So that’s that,” she wrote in a since-deleted tweet last July.

“I’m very unhappy with the way things have been handled too. I will make sure it’s not this way for ia3… I can assure you guys of that.”
